NURSES BEWARE!

Bliss Is …

baasil’s been hospitalised for over a week now and in that time even though i’m all new to the whole premature baby thing -you do pick up on what nurses, midwives, docs get up to to see that your bub’s doing ok….

i know dad can be a bit over-protective, over-bearing when it comes to his kid…every day there’s not a moment when he’s scanning baasil for any defects or abnormalities…

but today i had my first “FUMING PARENT”moment…

my dad finally decided to see his 4th grandson as well as his uncle amir…after picking up baasil’s birth certificate when i arrived, nearly had a heart attack when i saw baasil in a cot, no clothes, shivering whilst having his photo therapy with air conditioning blasting from on top…

the nurse -jamee, who’d been looking after him all morning was on lunch and all the other trainee nurses gave me blonde looks as to “dooohhhhh, i have no idea whats going attitude”…so was really annoying not being able to get updates…

when she did finally arrived, by that time had taken baasil’s temp…he was 35.5C…you have to be 36.5C to be of manageable temperature. it might be a degree different but this is a premmie baby…we’ve taken yonks to adjust to our environment…baasil’s only learning and this could be dterimental to his progress…so suggested he be put back into the incubator…

the stupid nurse was horrified that i could discover such discrepencies so had to double checked. both times it barely reached 36C so she double checked with the co ordinator if she put baasil back into the incubator…

you don’t need to be a doc to figure that one out…esp. when you see the bub shivering, trying to make itself warm and crying too…

its also annoying when he’s done a poop and they prefer waiting 3 hours when the shit’s turned to a clay brick inside his nappy and feels like you’re scrapping off cement from baasil’s ass before they do change him…are you trying to save the planet by not using too many disposable nappies or just simply have a poor hygeine policy especially when it comes to your patients?!? was talking to another mum in the nursery and she had to step in and bathe her 34 week bub because she had seen her bub reeking, smelling of vomit, shit…just a great way to attract more germs, diseases than eliminating them…

ayman had his moment today with the afternoon nurse…she just seem to treat baasil as if he was a rag doll, just handling him as rough as she could…he was mortified and whenever he tried to make any suggestions, she would run him down even getting another nurse to explain the situation…

just so annoying…

since they’re in training, would help if they were trained in empathy and compassion as well…

  1. Most nurses are caring and compassionate. However you seem to have the nurses from hell how unfortunate for poor Baasil you need to keep an extra eye on him when these ‘trainee’ nurses are around shuld really lodge an official complaint against such manhandling of a newborn as this is totally unacceptable.

  2. most have have been ok, especially since that incident. it had been noted çoz i called up the following morning (1am) just to see how baasil was and voice my concerns çoz i couldn’t sleep and it has been brought to the co-ordinator’s attention. we just had to have the same nurse today (of all people) 😛 but she was more cautious this time…
